Cheteshwar Pujara’s all formats retirement news.

With 103 games played and 7195 runs scored at an average of 43.60, Cheteshwar Pujara wraps up an incredible Test career.

With immediate effect. Cheteshwar Pujara has retired from all facets of Indian cricket. The 37-year-old Pujara announced the news on social media on Sunday. He last played for India in the WTC final against Australia in June 2023.

“It’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant to wear the Indian jersey. Sing the anthem, and give it my all every time I step on the field,” Pujara wrote. With great appreciation, I have chosen to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. As they say, good things come to an end.

“I appreciate all of your love and support.”

 

Pujara’s Test specialist legacy.

Despite the fact that Pujara hasn’t participated in Test cricket for more than two years. He now joins the elite group of Indian players who have retired from the format in the past year. This also includes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma prior to this year’s England tour. R Ashwin in December 2024.

Pujara started his international career in October 2010 and played in 103 Test matches and five ODIs. He was at his peak in Test cricket, scoring 7195 runs at an average of 43.60. The majority of those runs come from the No. 3 position. After he took over from former India captain Rahul Dravid.

After his most recent stint for Sussex in the County Championship. He played for Saurashtra earlier this year during the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season. He made his first-class debut for Saurashtra in December 2005.

 

Pujara’s contributions to Indian Test cricket.

In late 2010, he played his first Test match against Australia in Bengaluru. He went on to win numerous series against them, most notably in 2018–19 and 2020–21 in Australia and in early 2023 at home. After scoring 521 runs in the four Test matches, he was named Player of the Series in the 2018–19 series. That was India’s first Test series victory on Australian soil.

Pujara Retirement Statement.

Pujara wrote, “As a young boy from the small town of Rajkot, along with my parents. I set out to aim for the stars. Dreamt of being a part of the Indian cricket team.” “I had no idea at the time how much this game would offer me—invaluable chances, experiences, meaning, love, and most importantly. The opportunity to represent my state and this wonderful country.

“I want to express my gratitude to the Saurashtra Cricket Association. The BCCI for their support and opportunity throughout my cricket career. I also want to express my gratitude to every team, franchise. I have had the opportunity to represent over the years.

“The game has taken me all over the world, and the fans’ fervent support and enthusiasm have never wavered. Wherever I have performed, the encouragement and well-wishes have humbled me, and I will always be appreciative.”
