Actor Darshan arrested.

Hours after the Supreme Court revoked his bail in relation to the murder of his fan Renukaswamy. Actor Darshan has been apprehended by the Bengaluru Police. On Thursday afternoon Darshan visited his wife’s residence in Hosakerehalli, Bengaluru. Entering the premises through an alternate gate and driving a car that is not his usual vehicle. He met with his wife and son. The police were alerted to the actor’s presence and subsequently took him into custody. He was transported to the Annapoorneshwari police station where following the completion of necessary formalities and a medical examination. He will be presented before a court and returned to incarceration.

On Thursday a Supreme Court panel revoked the bail that had been granted to the well known Kannada actor by the Karnataka High Court in December. The bench consisting of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan ordered his arrest. Stating that he might influence witnesses and that the trial could be adversely affected if he were allowed to remain free on bail. Additionally the bench noted that the Karnataka High Court had displayed a manifest perversity by considering Darshan’s celebrity status as a factor in the decision to grant him bail.

Popularity cannot serve as a protection against accountability. Influence, resources and social standing should not justify the granting of bail when there exists a legitimate risk of compromising the investigation or trial, it stated. The bail for Darshan’s alleged accomplice and co-defendant Pavithra Gowda has also been revoked. Leading to her arrest at her home. Renukaswamy aged 33 was reportedly kidnapped by Darshan and his associates from Chitradurga and subsequently subjected to torture in a shed in Bengaluru last June due to inappropriate messages sent to Ms. Gowda.

The chargesheet pertaining to the case disclosed. Renukaswamy was subjected not only to physical assault but also to electric shocks applied to his genital area using a device. The continuous application of these shocks resulted in damage to one of his testicles. Following the assault by Darshan and his associates. Renukaswamy sustained fractures to his chest bones. In total, there are 39 visible injury marks across his body. Additionally the victim has a significant laceration on his head the chargesheet indicated. Subsequent to Renukaswamy’s death his remains were disposed of in a drain.
