Heavy rain disrupts normal life in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Pune rains: Authorities warned the communities surrounding the Mutha River after heavy rainfall in the catchment areas caused water to leak from the Khadakwasla dam.

The lower-lying areas surrounding the Mutha River are under flood alert as a result of the heavy rains that have continued to batter Pune, Maharashtra, over the past two days. Nearly 950 residents have been moved to safe shelters, according to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

A Red Alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Thane, the Ghats of Nasik, Pune, and Satara.

Authorities warned the communities surrounding the Mutha River after the Khadakwasla dam began to release water due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. Floodwaters have flooded the Morya Gosavi Temple in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

“Our teams at Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation have worked round the clock over the past 24 hours to relocate nearly 950 citizens from flood-affected and low-lying areas to safe shelters,” PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh wrote in an X post.

“We have made sure that there is food, clean drinking water, electricity, and medical facilities at every relief centre,” he continued.

With the help of our engineering, fire, health, and solid waste departments, Singh stated that the disaster management cells are operating at full capacity in every zonal office. For quick evacuations, buses, ambulances, and boats are sent out.

“In order to lower risks in other areas of the city, we are concurrently addressing complaints of waterlogging and drainage blockages,” he stated.

According to Singh, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation works closely with the traffic police, C-DAC, the irrigation department, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

We can monitor rainfall, dam discharges, and diversions in real time thanks to this partnership, which guarantees prompt action. He also assured the public that the situation is under control and that every precaution is being taken to keep them safe. “Citizens are also being informed continuously through All India Radio, FM channels, and PCMC’s digital platforms,” he added.

According to Singh, residents near rivers should work with the PCMC teams, heed their instructions, and relocate equipment, cattle, and valuables to safer locations.
